IPL Photofacial in Houston, Texas

Beautiful and healthy skin is everyone’s goal. The best way to keep your skin free of age spots and sun spots is a daily maintenance plan that includes sun block protection.

However, as we age, our previous sun exposure can surface in the form of darker pigment, wrinkles and tiny blood vessels.

If brown spots are left untreated, they can lead to a more damaging and potentially dangerous skin condition called Actinic Keratosis (AK). Even more serious, these can further progress into basil cell carcinoma.

The good news is that you can begin to correct and reverse this progressive process with intense puled light treatments (IPL) at Dr. Christi’s Medical Spa in Houston, Texas.

What is Photofacial?

A Photofacial uses visible light in a spectrum of wavelengths to treat sun damaged skin, brown spots, tiny red facial vessels (telangiectasia), and overall redness. During the treatment, the brown spots and superficial red vessels absorb this light energy, beginning the process to remove and correct the sun damaged skin.

How is the Cutera Limelight IPL Treatment Different from Others?

By using the Limelight IPL, Dr. Christi and her staff have the unique ability to shift the treatment wavelengths depending on the application and skin type. This means we can treat more skin tones and accommodate the melanin and hemoglobin absorption as well as the cooling and time of pulse delivery.

As reported in a clinical paper from Scripps Clinic Dermatologist Victor Ross,

“The LimeLight device is unique in its design because it makes pulsed light much more specific for the condition it’s treating and is able to shift between modes/wavelengths for different skin types and severity of conditions. It’s similar to having three different wavelengths in one box using the shorter wavelengths in the 500-600 nm range for vascular type procedures and longer wavelengths for pigment.”

This means better outcomes for you.

How Many Treatments Are Recommended?

While every patient is different, a typical treatment protocol consists of a series of 3-5 treatments performed every 2-4 weeks.

How is the Treatment Performed?

Photofacial or intense pulsed light treatments were developed to selectively target the sun-damaged pigment without damaging the normal skin area. These procedures use a light-based technology that produces wavelengths to react with the effected sun spot pigment causing it to follow a path of healing and flaking off over a short period of time.

This treatment is non-ablative and non-invasive with no social downtime needed. You will experience a slight redness following the treatment. In order to achieve a safe and full clearance, 3- 5 treatments may be needed based on the severity, skin type and background pigment colorations.

Treatment time for an entire face will take approximately 30 minutes while a neck and chest is around 45 minutes. Two passes of the device placed directly on the skin provide the basis for your redness to begin to lighten and brown spots darken and then flake off.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

  • Localized redness may occur in treatment area for up to 24 hours
  • Crusting and darkening of brown spots beginning after 24 hours and for up to 3-4 days
  • Flaking of “peppery looking spots” over a period of a week to two weeks
  • Re-treatment can be performed once the crusting has cleared; generally 1-3 weeks
  • You should avoid artificial tanning, sun exposure without sun protection, in the 4 weeks following treatment
