There is new hope for women suffering from vaginal dryness, atrophy, laxity and urinary incontinence. The MonaLisa Touch treatment is a laser technology therapy option that stimulates healthy regrowth of thinning vaginal walls. Please note: Content represents the views of the author. Not all claims have been cleared by the FDA.

Dr. Christi is proud to offer this groundbreaking treatment to her patients. She was the first physician in West Houston/Katy and the first Urologist in Houston to offer the procedure. MonaLisa Touch restores feminine health and has helped countless women feel more confident in themselves and in their marriages.

What is MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch is a minimally invasive, painless, in-office laser treatment for women who want to restore their pelvic health to the way it was before menopause.

Who is a good candidate for treatment?

MonaLisa Touch is ideal for women who have gone through menopause, breast cancer treatment or who have abnormal or painful vaginal walls. Estrogen is what keeps the vaginal walls plumped up and healthy, and when levels decline during menopause, vaginal walls become thin and inelastic. During breast cancer treatment, medications including Tamoxifen, Femara, Arimidex, and Aromasin block the effects of estrogen and cause a medical menopause.

How does it work?

A fractional CO2 laser uses focused heat energy to rejuvenate the vaginal walls, in a quick and painless 5-minute procedure. MonaLisa Touch pinpoints areas of unhealthy vaginal tissue, gently removes them, and stimulates the remaining tissue into self-rejuvenation. The laser awakens dormant cells in the vaginal wall so they increase the blood vessels, collagen and elastin.

The typical patient needs 3 treatments, spaced 6 weeks apart. The beneficial effects last for about a year, and one annual touch-up treatment is recommended to maintain healthy vaginal walls.

What does it cost?

One treatment is $1,200, and a package of 3 treatments is $3,000.

Does it hurt?

No. Lidocaine numbing jelly is placed on the vaginal opening to numb the area. Then, a probe is gently inserted into the vagina. The device gently blows air onto the vaginal wall to dry the wall, and then the laser delivers a series of pulses throughout the area. Laser energy covers the entire vaginal wall, and refreshes and restores the tissue, naturally. MonaLisa Touch does not cause pain. Rarely, a patient may experience some soreness or discharge.

What can I expect after treatment?

Because there are no side effects, you can resume your normal activities immediately. After the first treatment you will notice the vaginal walls are more comfortable during intercourse, because the laser has stimulated blood flow to the area, resulting in better lubrication ability. The healthier environment leads to a vibrant, normal flora which protects you from both vaginal and bladder infections. As the weeks progress, the walls continue to grow healthier, adding new blood vessels, collagen and elastin, and as a result they no longer crack or tear with intercourse.

Another benefit of MonaLisa Touch is improved bladder control. After treatment, women experience less urine leakage with exercise, coughing or sneezing, and a reduction of the urgent “gotta go” feeling. MonaLisa Touch also reduces the risk of urinary tract infections, because of the restored healthy vaginal flora. The pH of the vagina normalizes with the growth of beneficial lactobacillus bacteria, which prevents overgrowth of E.coli and other bacteria that cause bladder infections.

Here’s what one of Dr. Pramudji’s patients had to say about MonaLisa Touch:

“I thought I was going to have to learn to live with these problems; however, after my first MonaLisa Touch treatment, I saw improvements in all areas. After all three treatments, I can say there has been an even bigger difference with the symptoms I was experiencing. I stopped using my estrogen cream because the problem with dryness was gone, the burning is not a problem, and the pressure when needing to urinate is gone. I am making fewer trips to the bathroom at night (unless I drink an unusual amount of water before bed), and experiencing no drips. Not only have I experienced a difference, but also my husband said that he could tell a difference during intimacy. It is worth it, and I would do the procedure again.”
